Wedding at Notre-Dame Cathedral

Earlier this summer we had the privilege of photographing the wedding of two people who have devoted their careers to serving our country. It was a beautiful ceremony at Notre-Dame Cathedral, Ottawa’s oldest and largest Church. The Cathedral is recognized as an historic monument, and the incredibly beautiful architecture was a joy to capture. The bride was stunning in a gown sprinkled with Swarovski crystals, and the groom was dapper in suit and tie, along with his son who was the best man.

After the ceremony a reception took place at the Rideau Club, an establishment with a history as long as the cathedral. The Rideau Club was formed by Sir John A Macdonald and D’arcy McGee among others and continues today with a distinguished membership of political, business and community leaders. And it has some of the best views in the city I have ever seen. A jazz trio provided music for cocktails and dinner, and the tables were adorned with gorgeous blooms. An elegant way to celebrate the love and companionship of a wonderful couple.

Sometimes everything goes wrong, but in the end, it turns out so right. Such was the case for Lindsey and Martin, who pulled off a spectacularly beautiful wedding despite the many, many obstacles they had to overcome to do it.

More to come, but we wanted to share a sneak peek of just how right the day turned out. Even the sun decided to show up on a rainy day for this amazing couple.

Thank you to Lindsey and Martin and their fantastic group of friends and family for making us feel so welcome, and for being so much fun! Never have we had a group portrait on a roof!

Green City Guide

This spring we worked together on the Green City Guide for the wonderful magazine Eco-Beautiful Weddings. For their summer issue they wanted to feature Ottawa, Ontario and we were thrilled to be asked to provide the photography! So check out the article HERE on page 37, it features some fabulous, eco-friendly local shops and products. I’ve talked about this magazine before as I’m a fan, and think that anyone who’s planning a wedding- even if it’s not specifically eco-friendly- will enjoy it. It’s got tons of great resources and articles written by some of the best-known wedding experts in the industry. Plus it’s a great looking publication.

Summer Love

As will happen once wedding season is in full swing and we get busier and busier, we aren’t posting as much on the blog. I have to share one from Vicky and Simon’s beautiful engagement session last week. I know it’s technically not summer until June 21, but we had gorgeous golden light and warm summer sun, so it sure felt like it.

We were accompanied by their adorable little dog, and if you look closely you can see her peeking from the corner. She was a cutie, and quite a diva for the camera too! So maybe she was a little disappointed when the focus shifted from puppy love to true love.

Vicky and Simon, we are looking forward to August and more beautiful moments like this one… see you soon.

The Bytown Bride

A short time ago we had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Jen from Trixie Tulip. If you’re planning a wedding in the Ottawa area, her blog The Bytown Bride is an excellent site, and is intended to be a place where couples can engage vendors by asking questions and getting good information. Also an event planner, she along with Wendy of Beyond Events, is organizing wonderful networking events for wedding professionals in the Ottawa area, and I can’t wait to attend their next spectacular function. Trixie Tulip loves all things weddings, and we are very lucky to have such a great local resource!

I’m also excited because we’ve got a project we’re working on with Trixie Tulip, and I’ll be sharing that soon!

Ordinary Magic | Child and Family Photographers

One of the things I appreciate most about my children is that they teach me as much as I teach them, probably more. When we get older, we get practical. And we forget. We forget that there is value in imagination and daydreams and being fanciful.

Yesterday my daughter found a magic wand in a mud puddle, and indeed created something magical. In 20 years she will be all grown up, and too big for me to kiss goodnight and tuck her in. But when I look at this portrait, I will remember her at 5 years old– a princess in a mud puddle, finding magic in an ordinary day.
